How do you keep up with technology?

In our modern world, technology keeps getting better and better by the day. The prices of these electronic devices have greatly gone down in the past 10 years. A lot of computers are getting replaced by the day but the big question that comes into our mind is that “How do you keep up with technology”?

The time gap for replacing a computer has greatly decreased nowadays. Before, you can replace your computer in every five years but now, things have changed and the rapid advance in technology makes it hard for us to keep up with the current technology.

For example, 10 years ago, the fastest computer would not be more than 1 GHz and to have a computer that has 1 GHz would cost you a fortune. Now, you can get a dual-core computer at a speed of 3.2 GHz x2 at the same price that it was for the 1 GHz computer. It is simply amazing how things could change in past 10 years and the technological gap that is increasing by day is leaving us outdated in just merely a couple of years.

To keep with technology, you have to think and act wisely. One of the few questions that would reach your mind is that “How much are you ready to invest in and how long do you plan on keeping this before you will get a new replacement for it?” It is very obvious that you have to change a computer which costs you $500 more often than when you buy a computer which costs you $1000. A good way to check the requirements of what you need in your computer is to check with the most advanced software that you can find and stay with its minimum requirement.

A few softwares such as Adobe Photoshop CS3 requires you to have a high end computer but what you have to take into account is its minimum requirement. How much memory does it require for the program to be able to run? What is the minimum processing speed? These things need to be taken into consideration when buying a computer.

We’ll make an example with Jack. Jack needs a new computer and he would consider buying one that would keep up with the future technology in the next 4 to 5 years. The minimum that he would have to spend would be at least $800 to $1000. It is most likely that he would get computer with a minimum 2GB memory with at least a 2.4 GHz dual core processing speed. This would keep him on track with the future technological advances that is soon to come.

There are no disadvantages of being patient. The more patient you are, the better the results would be. It is very hard for us to keep up with the current technology and the only way we could do that is to think wise and to act wise. Do not think of what you currently require but think of what you would also require in the future.
