What are domain names?
Domain names are basically the names that you see in a website. For example, www.yahoo.com . Since the dot-com boom in the 90’s, a lot of domain names have been taken up by people as they are now in demand. Buying a new domain name would cost you much less rather than buying an old one but there are a few disadvantages of it that we would cover soon.
How to choose a domain name?
A good domain name to get is a good domain name that would explain exactly what your websit;e is all about. An example of a good domain name would be one of the big companies such as PCWorld.com or friendster.com. These domain names explain exactly what it wanted to explain. You should also bear in mind that your potential customers or members would want a domain name that is easy to memorize so do not go for a long domain name. Instead, get a short and sweet domain name.
How to get your domain name?
Domain names are available through hosting companies or registrars such as Register.com. Prices could differ from one registrar/hosting company to another. These prices are not fixed but you can obtain them at a minimum of $7.99 for a .com domain. Buy a domain only at a registrar or a hosting company you trust and do not fall for the ones with the cheapest. Get a domain name where you yourself has total control to it just in case you have to push the domain to someone else.
How to monetize your domain names?
You can monetize your domain names at the domain name marketplaces such as Sedo.com or GoDaddy. Whenever someone goes to your parked to your domain name and clicked on your ads, you can get money from it. This method has a few flaws though. It is hard to get people to go to your parked domains and click the ads available. Some other group of people prefers to sell the domain names for a higher price or they buy bulks at a low price and sell them high. Either ways, domain names could also be a source of money for a few people.
How does a domain name affect the search engine results?
Search engines usually prioritize the domain name and then all the other keywords related to it but do bear in mind that your website also needs to be relevant with the keywords being searched. For example, when a person searches for “game reviews”, the websites which has “reviews” in it would be prioritized more in the search results rather than other words. Though this is also affected by other criteria such as relevancy, backlinks and other search engine optimization (SEO) related.

New websites are usually stuck inside “google’s sandbox”. What is that?

Google sandbox (or website’s age filter known by others) are one of the ways Google filters spam websites. During the process of maturity, your website might not even rank high for its own name. This process might take as short as a month or as long as six to seven months. This is why a few people decided to buy old domain names rather than getting a new one.
